I like that this adventure can go in many different directions and feels a bit like an open sandbox, while still having some rails.

A good investigation and role playing module. But certain abilities which allow seeing through the villains spells will upend the module. Combat just for combat sakes is not fun if the PCS made friends with certain groups. My players did not like the final chase rules. And the DM map of the city needs the roads label or keep both players and DMs handouts together.

Outstanding urban mystery with an excellent mixture of scenarios and enough routes to discover the necessary clues to unravel the mystery in different ways. Very highly recommended!!

My players LOVED this.. they tend to enjoy RP and the combat that was scattered in. Because it was about giving them a chance to explore new high level characters , and new subclases, they had a lot of fun with it. After this module, I followed it up with a level 10 combat heavy module so that they could also explore the battle-abilities.

It's hard to find one-shot modules that include opportunities for role play and different options, without feeling too linear. And this was perfect for us.

I loved the maps. Maps always make a game fun for me. I also loved the flow charts. Flow charts make the DM's life easier.

This is one of the best mods in the AL canon.

It has:

  • The party has an unusual motivation -- to clear themselves of a murder charge.
  • The clue tree for the DM is excellent.
  • The mod rewards/unlocks a magic item in high demand
  • The mod is non-linear for the players, but straightforward for a DM to run.
  • There's more than just combat. Creative players can easily "solve" situations that combat-prone groups will bog down in.
  • The final combat has an interesting mechanic.
  • There is definitely some strategy to the final combat.
  • The players really have to work to unlock the premium magic item.

All-in-all, the mod provides great satisfaction to the group who plays it. Well recommended.

This was the first game I've ever DM'd and I found that this adventure was laid out very clearly and was an absolute blast. The storyarc is compelling, the information included made it really easy for me to have a clear sense of what was going on which helped the players, and I loved the mystery elements to this game.

A great adventure requiring some thinking on the parts of the players. Might be a little challenging for new DM's to run, but shouldn't be a problem if read thoroughly. Players really liked it!

A solid mystery/chase adventure with much more than average replayability. A nice plot tree lays out the structure of the adventure and the locations are intriguing. This is one of the few adventures I have run and played and I expect I will run it more in the future. The handouts are also nice.

The Good.

The urban jungle; not knowing who might be a spy or guard with a your name and a rough description of your face. I've always loved these sorts of adventures. That, and the trope of the framing the heroes so they have to discover "who done it" and clear their name are the main reasons why I love this adventure.

The city regions are very well defined so you can run this adventure "theatre of the mind" with no issues. I loved the multiple locations that the players can visiting, this adds a layer of replay-ability to the module since they will most likely not visit them all in a single session.

The Bad.

The sandbox nature of the module is a double edge-sword. My first time running this module, it went well beyond the 4-hour mark. In fact, I had to split it up into two sessions. My recommendation for any DMs trying this module is to prepare for each possible encounter before hand. You never know which route the players might take when the boots start running.

My only real critique of the module is the introduction hook for the players. If you are running this as part of Season 2 of Adventures League then no problem, but if it ends up being a pick-up group at your local gaming store it won't make any sense.

The Awesome.

I can't recommend this module enough. Any adventure that promotes and rewards good role-playing (as opposed to roll-playing) is a win-win for everyone at the table. Get into it! Use voices, set the environment, and hint at dangers that aren't there to keep up the suspense.

Good reward and interesting encounters. The potential to shortcut/circumvent some of the scenarios, especially the first one, might test a new DM, but experienced DMs will have fun changing things up. Don't forget to play up the city and its rules too.

It was my first time as a DM, and it was really easy to follow and a lot of fun! I had no problem at all running it, because it was very easy to follow and know which way it was going. Because of this, some players may not like it cause where it is headed is predictable, but I really enjoyed it. Because a lot of my players were new, I wanted to force them to have to look at things from a noncombat prespect, so they could better understand all paths you can take, and this did the trick without lacking action and fun! It's become a standard story to tell of how this campaign ran because of how much fun it was! I would definitely run this again.

My players and I had a great time with this adventure. The mystery solving and sneaking through town is a nice change of pace if you usually run combat-heavy adventures. Players liked that they had opportunities to pull out many of the non-combat skills they don't often get a chance to use.

Pro

  • Lots of exploration and chances for stealthy characters to shine
  • Good mystery with enough (but not too many) clues for the characters to pick up
  • Replayability from the different encounters available

Con

  • Can be a lot to prep, since players have several directions to choose from
