The first product in the Polymecha line, Weapons of Power Armor Destruction expands the mecha rules from d20 Future with rules for creating smaller sized suits of power armor.

The basics are the same as those for larger mecha. Select a small, medium or large size frame. The differences between the three are relatively small: a jump in hit points from one size category to the next, and large suits have double the equipment slots of small suits. Reach and fighting space are the same for all three suits.

After selecting the size of the suit, the next step is to choose the material the superstructure is manufactured from. In addition to selecting the base material, there are four options which allow you to make small changes to its statistics. Some superstructure materials may also be added as external armor, which is the next step in the process.

The next sections feature the different types of equipment you can outfit your shiny new armor with. These are broken down into flight systems, sensor systems, defense systems, weapon systems and miscellaneous equipment. Many of these systems require one or more slots of space, and some are restricted to certain locations.

Following the equipment sections are rules for power armor movement and combat. These rules are followed by a number of feats, and finish with the Power Armor Pilot advanced class.

This system is simple to learn and use, free from the intense number crunching often found in mecha-related supplements. In addition to all the statistics needed to assemble the suit from prefab parts, each section opens with information on the relevant craft rolls for scratch building your own systems.

The simplicity of the system also works against it. Because of the way the slot system works, it can be difficult to recreate more complex suits such as the Iron Man armor; which packs a whole lot of systems into a little frame.

LIKED: Plenty of options for putting together smaller types of mecha, for those days you want to be able to walk around without smashing apartment buildings with your feet.

Landscape oriented for easy screen viewing.

DISLIKED: The three frame sizes seem rather bland, with nothing to really make one stand out from the others.

This version doesn't seem particularly printer friendly, and the color used for the headers and table backgrounds rendered on my screen as a particularly unpleasant green.

In addition, this product is plagued by tecnhical errors ranging from missing or misspelled words, grammar errors and mistakes such as the inverted numbers in the Prototype listing.

QUALITY: Very Good

VALUE: Satisfied
