I actually purchased this solely because I am familiar with the authors work and have enjoyed it in other White Wolf products, even though I don't play an awful lot of Exalted. Frankly, I think some of the reviews have been overly and needlessly harsh, and others have been more fair. The material itself, the actual plot and details and whatnot, are quite good, and easily adaptable to whatever a GM might have need for. It seems that the biggest ding the author is getting is that there were problems with how it meshed with the mechanics of the game. As someone who used to freelance write, I'm going to stand up for someone who I'm also assuming is also a freelancer (Which is often the case for most RPG writers it seems.) People often get assignments they don't like, and they do the best with what they are given. Believe me, I've been there, it's a tough nut to be handed, and this has a lot of the hallmarks of a project done under duress, with the author making the best of a bad situation. Maybe I'm wrong, this is just my gut intuition talking to me.

I find it dismaying to see how many people (including WW...way to stand up for yourselves and especially your employees, guys) are piling on the author, but fail to face facts: It's the job of White Wolf's editors to thumb it up or down. A good editor would help the author with whatever mechanical flaws and shortcomings the material might have. If such a "flawed" work was let out, it was mostly because the Editor fell asleep at the wheel. Again, I've been in that sort of situation in the past, where I was working under duress, and really needed the steady hand of a good editor to pull me through...only to find the person I was working with lacking; writers depend on good editors to hold up their end of the job as well, and it sucks when the one you are depending on lets you down...

I'm sorry that you consider our responses to be "piling on the author," rather than a sincere indication that perhaps our development process could be improved to assist our freelancers in future endeavors. As the person who developed the product, all I can say is that I prefer to find solutions rather than blame, and this experience has certainly helped me to find better solutions in future products.
