Lost Classes: Sword of Khonsu (D20 OGL)

The Sword of Khonshu is part of the Lost Classes series from the Devil?s Workshop / LPJ Design, a range of supplements that provide new prestige classes for D&D/D20 fantasy based on common fantasy (and sometime super heroic) archetypes. This supplement is four pages long (three after you drop the OGL) and has a fairly clean layout with a single piece of art showing a winged warrior (which, beside the angelic/faithful connotation seems to have no connection to the actual class presented).

The Sword of Khonshu is an odd prestige class, as prerequisites, it requires both divine spell casting and a high BAB as well as 14+ in Strength and Dexterity and nothing else: no skills, no feats, no in game requirements. The Swords of Khonshu have made a blood oath with their deity to defend the helpless and pursue those who cause harm to the innocent (but, this is not reflected in their prerequisites in anyway).

The Sword of Khonshu gains almost random abilities with no discernable focus or theme. They receive D12 HD but less than Wizard BAB (as both the BAB bonus table and their good saves do not match the patterns of BAB or saves in the core rules), one good save (Reflex) and 6 + Int skills with a decent range of skills to choose from. The abilities the Sword of Khonshu gains are a mixture of paladin (aura of good, smite evil), ranger (combat style) and fixed bonus feats (Track, Lightning Reflexes, and Power Attack -gained at 10th level!-). The class table lists spells per day, but nowhere in the document is it explained what these spells are. Everything that is part of the class is lifted from some other class, there is nothing new here.

The Sword of Khonshu is nearly unusable in its current form, its abilities are all over the place, there is no focus to the class and very little to tie the abilities together in a workable way. Sadly, there is nothing beside the artwork to recommend this product.

QUALITY: Poor

VALUE: Disappointed
