Lost Classes: Dark Avenger (D20 OGL)

Though treading ground alredy covered, the Dark Avenger is a good take on the comic-book-style vigilante brought into a fantasy milieu. This is an archetype that everyone is thoroughly familiar with, so fitting it into a campaign should be no problem.

The class does seem to be more tailored for an NPC role, but a party of night-loving city dwellers (rogues, urban rangers, bards, etc.) should find a place for a Dark Avenger in their midst.

The class mechanics are good, as usual. Entry requirements do a great job of setting the mood for the class, and include a roleplaying entry allowing the GM to customize the class to his/her world.

The class abilities also do a great job of setting the mood for this brooding night fighter. The Home Turf class ability is great, though I find the time to change home turfs exceedingly long (your mileage may vary). The Signature Weapon class abilities is a little cumbersome as written; GMs may want to read it through and decide if it's okay for their style of play, or if they wish to simplify it a little.

As an extra note for those who care about this, the OLG section 15 is wrong, as it lists the Dreadnought and not the Dark Avenger. This is a minor oversight, but if you wish to use the OGC in this PrC, make sure you write the correct name.

Another excellent PrC in this series.

Even though this class is similar to some earlier published PrCs, such as the vigilante from "Song and Silence", it has a nice touch. It's somewhat of a Zorro for fantasy. I see it mainly as a potential NPC class and plot hook, but a good one at that.

VERY COOL PRESTIGE CLASS, KINDA LIMITED BY WHERE HE/ SHE CAN GO AND WHERE THEY CAN USE SPECIAL ABILITIES. DEFINETLY A PRESTIGE CLASS THAT APPEARS WOULDN'T WORK IN A LARGE GAME GROUP. WOULD WORK BETTER WITH A NPC MORE THAN A PC. IMAGINITIVE PRESTIGE CLASS.

As someone has already pointed out, each of these classes seems to be a piece taken from the comic book realm (dark avenger=batman), but they are still well-done bits easily added into an existing campaign.

Quick, short, concise. it is also easy to from into any on going campaign with little to no retooling. That's what I like about it.

Great PC or NPC class to add to a GM's campaign world. A nice edition to any GM's library!
