CHOMP! A Zombie Apocalypse Role Playing Game
by Jeremy S. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 04/13/2020 00:28:36

Simple to learn, simple to teach, and I have already had a blast running several games with family and friends. It is also easy to houserule when you want a unique Tactic or Trait for your Survivor.

CHOMP! A Zombie Apocalypse Role Playing Game
by Dave I. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 11/08/2014 09:01:27

This game is really fun. I ran it for my RPG club and they had a blast. I will keep it in my backpack and run it every time I can. The writing and art style are amusing and set the tone that I like for zombie games. I enjoyed reading it and running it. I printed the .pdf out and I am now coloring the art with colored pencils so it has returned me to childhood and that is a treasure that I cannot place a value on. Thank you Dave

Thanks Dave for the positive review. Knowing you colored in the book with colored pencils made my weekend. We are ecstatic to have a fan like you out there who enjoyed CHOMP! We aimed to make a game that was more Zombieland and Shaun of the Dead than it was Walking Dead. Keep killing those zombies with a smile on your face. Thank you, Craig and Matt

CHOMP! A Zombie Apocalypse Role Playing Game
by Micah W. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 10/23/2014 17:18:45

I'm usually a fan "crunchy" strategic games and universal game systems. This is neither. CHOMP! does pretty much one thing, but it does it very, very well. What it does is be a fast, simple game about zombies.

The entire game is made to have minimal prep time for GMs (and players) who are busy. After you've learned to make a character the first time character gen should never take you more than 5 minutes (so even if your character dies you can start play in the next "scene" as a new one). The game play itself is also fast and cinematic. The 10 types of zombies (you could easily create more of your own) have static numbers so only the players need to roll dice which also keeps things moving. The example "Film" (adventure) in the book does a great job of showing how the game was intended to run, but it could also easily be used for a sandbox style game.

If there is one "flaw" in CHOMP! it's that it is not meant for extended campaign play (and would need to be modified pretty heavily to be used that way). However, since that's not the game's intended use I don't see that as a flaw at all. It is great for single session games and could be made into a 2 or 3 session miniseries fairly easily. It's a great filler game for when someone drops out last minute from your game night since it requires so little prep to run. It is simple enough that I've used it as an introductory game for someone who has never role played before.

Overall, for the price it's at I can't recommend this game enough. If you like bashing zombies with household items, fleeing for your life from mutated monstrosities, and generally having fun the zombie genre give CHOMP! a try.
