The Bleak Harvest, a horror adventure by Total Party Kill Games

The patients of Willowbrook Sanitarium are in grave danger...

With each new day, another patient at the Willowbrook Sanitarium falls victim to an unseen menace that leaves them practically catatonic. Each night, the survivors become easy prey to a servant of madness who has infiltrated the sanitarium, hoping to gather sufficient tributes for a massive sacrifice—a ceremony that will herald the arrival of an incomprehensible evil to the land.

The Duke, a cousin of the king, is caught in the middle, and it will take a band of extraordinary heroes to unravel the webs of deceit, rescue the duke, and lead a band of lunatics to disrupt the cataclysmic event known as The Bleak Harvest.

Will you solve the mystery of the Bleak Harvest and save the lives of the inhabitants, or will you be driven mad and become in need of Willowbrook's Sanitarium yourselves, ripe for sacrifice?

The Bleak Harvest is a horror-themed adventure for 8th- to 9th-level characters.  Written for the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game and Fifth Edition Fantasy, this adventure can be dropped into any preexisting campaign with minimal changes required.

This module is recommended for mature players as it contains adult situations, mental illness, the possibility of the PCs needing to commit evil acts, and a very real chance players must give up some their characters’ control in order to survive.

Perfect for use with Horror and Occult source material, as such themes abound.

I ran session one for the Bleak Harvest (5E version) Sunday night and streamed it on my twitch channel. It was awesome! Loved it. I took some big liberties to condense it down but it went very well. However, as I'm preparing for the big battle (SPOILER ALERT), I'm confused about the Dark Young's power for 5E. For Pathfinder, he has a strong insanity power but as I look at the 5E version, I just don't see it. It is such a big part of the module and setup that I feel like maybe I'm just missing something. I think I will just substitute a confusion power but I wanted to check with you. Am I missing something in the 5E statblock? Thanks!

"Although 5e doesn’t have many rules about madness, the DMG has optional rules for such effects. I’d say that failing the Wisdom save induces “short-term madness “ as outlined in the DMG optional rules. To really punch it up, the dark young could inflict long-term madness and perhaps even indefinite madness as well—basically adds a new flaw to the character."

Some pre-generated characters have been created for use with this adventure.

I just purchased both the pdf and the Fantasy Grounds module. Question for anyone who has played this (or the author). What is the expected play time? Trying to decide if I can run this as a one-shot in one session of 4-6 hrs or if its more intended as a 2-3 session adventure of say 10-12 hrs. Obviously I can adjust it up or down as needed, but I'm curious what everyone's experience has been. Thanks!

A dedicated group can get through this in 12 hours but I would set aside 15. That said, I plan to run 6-hour sessions of only the sanitarium and final encounters at conventions this year :-)

Excellent. That was in line with what I thought. I’d like to run the full adventure with a couple groups as it looks very interesting. I might try to also do something similar to what you are thinking for a couple one-shots too. Thanks for the quick reply!

Hey Allen, as a new author/designer I know I need to really "bring the goods" in order to stand out in such a massive field of talent creating game content nowadays. With that in mind, I've created some pre-gen characters which hopefully will encourage GMs to give the module a try.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
